It promises abandoned hilarity, adventure and immersion into the world that makes you forget about daily vanity.
Understandably why producers and film directors choose Las Vegas as the main movie location and gambling as the main theme of movies.
And whether you are acquainted with gambling or not, have ever played or not, you watch these movies again and again, enjoy, laugh or empathize with characters planning to rob casino or getting off the hook.
I should not be surprised to know that some great gambling-themed movies inspired the Dutch government to permit Dutchmen to gamble online on the international sites not only on their local website of online casino (Nederlandsegokken NL) and to issue licensing for them. To be serious, there should have been more practical reasons by which the decision was made, of course. Nevertheless, the below gambling-themed movies are definitely able to influence people’s attitude and opinions so remarkable and genius they are.
- The epic crime drama ‘Casino’ by Martin Scorsese rightly tops the list. It revealed the cardinal rule of games is ‘to keep them playing and to keep them coming back. The longer they play, the more they lose, and in the end, we get it all’. This masterpiece shows the Las Vegas world in the 1970s and ’80s and does it quite realistic. The main characters are based after real people. ‘Casino’ has the mix of all everything to capture viewers like power, love, money, confrontation and, of course, brilliant acting of Robert De Niro, Sharon Stone and Joe Pesci. According to some critics’ opinions, this movie outstrips ‘Goodfellas’ in some ways.
- Ocean’s Eleven by Steven Andrew Soderbergh takes us to the present time. It is a comedy and an action movie in one showing how a small group of people managed to twist the owner of three casinos around their fingers and leave him with nothing. Isn’t that the wish of any person who lost in casino even for once to avenge? The movie is littered with humor and does not depict violence unlike ‘Casino’. More than that, Ocean’s Eleven united so many favorite actors like George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Andy Garcia, Matt Damon and Julie Roberts each of which contributed their talent and charisma to create such a great movie.
- Casino is not always a never-ending holiday and an opportunity to win big money. Addiction and related implications are the flip side of gambling. The Canadian movie ‘Owning Mahowny’ directed by Richard Kwietniowski in 2003 is another reminder about that. The main character Dan Mahowny combines two personalities. The first one is a good trustworthy bank employee. Needless to say, he could not hide the second part of his personality for too long, and eventually it ruined all his life.
